Runway Safety

Local Runway Safety Teams bring together airport operators, NAV CANADA, airlines, flight schools, general aviation and other local partners to improve runway safety. By combining operational experience with safety information, teams identify local hazards and coordinate practical actions to reduce the risk of runway incursions, excursions and other runway safety events.

L-RSTs support continuous improvement by:

• Identifying hazards and assessing local runway safety risks.
• Sharing safety information, operational experience and lessons learned.
• Developing coordinated mitigation strategies.
• Tracking agreed actions and reviewing their effectiveness.
• Encouraging open discussion and the reporting of safety concerns.

L-RSTs provide a forum for collaboration and advice. Participating organizations retain responsibility for their operational decisions, regulatory obligations and Safety Management System (SMS) processes.
