Decommission of VHF Direction Finding - National

NAV CANADA, the country's provider of civil air navigation services, conducted an aeronautical study that examined the requirement for Very High Frequency (VHF) Direction Finding (VDF) equipment used to provide navigational assistance to pilots, served by some control towers and flight service stations (FSS).

The study concluded that due to the proliferation of GNSS positioning equipment, VDF is no longer required for the provision of navigational assistance and the use of the VDF equipment be discontinued and reference to VDF be removed from all aeronautical publications.
